GoPro Stabilization Options While Running

Since 2009 GoPro has sold more than 30,000,000... that's million with an "M"... Hero cameras. Think about that for a minute. That is a lot of action cameras, but have you seen typical GoPro footage? Most of it isn't worth sharing with your mother. It's shaky, and jittery, and likely to make you motion sick just sitting on your couch. And filming while trail running... That has to be one of the worst case scenarios. But today we're here to help. The video above was shot on a GoPro Hero5, and while we don't claim to be expert videographers, we have spent quite a bit of time running around with GoPros attached to various things. During that time we have stumbled upon a few [...]

Event Spotlight: TAM Trek

  1. Tell us about your event. What is it? What makes it special?   The Middlebury Area Land Trust started building the now 19-mile Trail Around Middlebury (TAM) in 1989. At present it encircles the village of Middlebury, traveling through Cornwall, Weybridge, and New Haven. It links nearly 1,000 acres of public and conserved lands. The trail traverses Chipman Hill with vistas of the Green Mountains and Adirondacks, local farmlands, old-growth forests along Otter Creek, the stunning Gorge at Belden Falls, and many bucolic Vermont scenes.  It really captures the character of Vermont landscapes and takes place in the fall, just in time for the first turning of the leaves!   2. What’s the purpose of the event? Is it a for-profit venture, is there [...]

Thule Urban Glide Stroller Review

Having kids, while not for everyone, is one of life's great joys. That said, the transition into parenthood can be a bit jarring as your freedom and spare time are significantly reduced. If you're a runner with future goals this can be a very challenging time. But, don't fret. With the right equipment there's no need to shelve your running goals, and running with your kids is a great way to get them outside and expose them to an active lifestyle at an early age. Below we are going to take a look at the Thule Urban Glide ($479.95). They don't give this thing away, but we think it's totally worth it. Continue reading to learn why...  First... Favorite Trail Running Gear: 2018

As I write this it’s mud season here in Vermont. Despite the warm temperatures, our trails are still quite vulnerable as the ground thaws out and the melting snow at higher elevations creates a persistent state of sloppiness lower down. But, what better time is there to talk about trail running than while we’re all eagerly awaiting the reopening of our beloved trails! Also, please remember that gear recommendations only provide a starting point. One person can’t possibly speak for the masses, and as always comfort and fit trump everything else. Also, if you’re relatively new to trail running try not to get too caught up in gear specifics. Just get out there! Grab any old shirt you have laying around… clean or not. [...]

Review: 2017 Salomon Speedspike CS

2017 Salomon Speed Spike CS Shoe Type: Studded Winter Trail Weight: 305g Drop: 6mm Stack: 24mm Heel, 18mm Forefoot MSRP: $170 Here in Vermont maintaining mileage throughout the winter months can be challenging. We're located such that we receive systems of brutally cold air that sweep down from Canada, and warm/wet systems that curl up from the Gulf. One day it might be -8°F with -30°F windchill, then flip to 61°F and raining, then immediately swing back to 4°F and sunny! Because of these extreme swings in temperature and the associated variable precipitation, our road surfaces and trails are constantly changing. From one run to the next you could encounter packed snow, then slush, followed by water ice. When I first started winter running I used whatever trail shoe [...]
